BRAP Webinar 2024 Series No. 7: A Culture of Safety to the Next Level: Institutionalizing Biorisk Management Across Sectors

Introducing the BRAP Twin Talks 2024, a captivating series of webinars that showcases the remarkable graduates of the Certified Biosafety Officers Expertise Training Course (CBPetc) by the BioRisk Association of the Philippines 2015, Inc.

These individuals have successfully completed a rigorous and immersive expertise training course, lasting seven months. Through a combination of virtual and in-person sessions, they have dedicated a remarkable total of 240 learning hours to enhance their knowledge and skills in biosafety, biosecurity and biorisk management.

The graduates have also presented their capstone projects, which highlight their exceptional ability to create, implement, and monitor biosafety, biosecurity, and biorisk management systems within their respective institutions. Furthermore, each CBPetc graduate has been given the prestigious opportunity to take and successfully pass the International Federation of Biosafety Associations professional certification exam.

The primary objective of the Twin Talks Series is to provide these accomplished individuals with a platform to share their wealth of knowledge and expertise as resource speakers, both within their own institutions and in their fields of specialization. In this series, the graduates will present in pairs, thus the term “twin,” offering comprehensive talks on topics of their choice. Their presentations aim to guide and assist all those interested in implementing effective and robust biosafety programs in their own institutions.

With their deep understanding of biosafety practices and their diverse perspectives, the Twin Talks Series promises to be an enriching experience for all attendees. Join us as we delve into the correct and robust ways of establishing biosafety programs in your institutions.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity for valuable insights and guidance. Stay tuned for the start of the Twin Talks Series and prepare to be inspired!

BRAP would like to invite all #biosafety advocates to its seventh webinar for 2024!

BRAP is represented in a meeting on “International Collaboration during the Pandemic: Lessons Learned for Biosafety & Biosecurity.”

October 14-15, 2024, Royal Plaza in Scotts, Singapore

Introduction: International collaboration in health, science, and technology is vital for innovation and public health. During the COVID-19 pandemic, global cooperation was crucial for developing vaccines and building pandemic resilience infrastructure. However, increased collaboration has raised concerns about vulnerabilities to exploitation and biological weapons proliferation. As recovery continues, the global biorisk community must discuss lessons learned for biosafety and biosecurity to enhance pandemic resilience and protect research from malign exploitation.

Project overview: Health Security Partners (HSP) and local partners BioRisk Association of the Philippines 2015, Inc. (BRAP2015) conducted consultative meetings in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and the Philippines separately, involving stakeholders from government, academia, and industry related to COVID-19 R&D. Supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Biosecurity Engagement Program, these meetings aimed to discuss pandemic response and biosafety collaboration, generating recommendations to mitigate risks. Using biosecurity case studies, the meetings followed the Chatham House Rule for open dialogue. After the discussions, HSP created a landscape analysis of international collaboration during the pandemic, culminating in a report and a follow-up virtual meeting to discuss findings.

Impact: As we recover from COVID-19, stakeholders must unite to discuss lessons for future biosafety and biosecurity collaboration. This program aims to strengthen national and regional capacities, helping countries recognize lessons in biosafety and safeguard international health, science, and technology collaboration against exploitation.

In Random order: HSP Senior Program Manager, Ms. Libby Cha, BRAP 1st International Lifetime Member and BSS Guru, Dr. Viji Vijayan with BRAP President Mr Ronaldo Puno, BRAP Founding President Dr Miguel Martin Moreno II, BRAP Secretary Mr Ariel Angelo Aquino, BRAP Treasurer Ms Michaella Sayo, BRAP Asst. Treasurer Mr Lito Atienza, and BRAP members Ms Jocelyn Aquisay, Mr Benjamin IV Mutya, Dr Franco Teves, Mr John Kenneth Pagdanganan, Mr Fernando Calero, and Ms Jessica Mae Roxas,
