Pursuant to the BRAP board resolution following the ratification of the amendments to the constitution held during the 2nd BRAP Annual Convention in July 2018, the following twenty-one incorporators were elevated to the rank of
Lifetime Members effective August 2018.

Application for Lifetime Member status may be availed by other regular members in good standing by sending a written application/request to the Membership Committee (Chair: Dr. Leila Lany M. Florento) who will approve and elevate the application to the BRAP Board for final approval.

Lifetime member applicants shall pay a one-time application/processing fee of ten thousand pesos (PhP10,000.00).

A-PBA Announcement & Call for Papers

The A-PBA Organizing Committee invites submission for oral / poster presentation at the 14th A-PBA Annual Conference that will be held from 17th Sep to 20th Sep 2019 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The theme of the conference is: “Biosafety &Biosecurity – For Sustainable Development in Health and Agriculture”

The following broad topics are the focus for the A-PBA Conference however, papers on other appropriate topics that relate to the goals of the conference will be considered

  • Biosafety / Laboratory Biosafety /Biosecurity / Laboratory Biosecurity
  • Regulatory initiatives impacting biosafety and biosecurity
  • Containment facility design, commissioning, maintenance and operation
  • Biorisk applications related to Infectious diseases affecting humans or animals
  • Containment/laboratory equipment
  • Biological risk assessment / mitigations and communication
  • Applied research and innovations impacting biosafety and biosecurity 

The abstract submission deadline is 31st May 2019. Selected abstracts will be printed in the conference program booklet.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACT FOR ORAL/POSTER PRESENTATION

Each registrant may submit one abstract of his or her presentation during the conference.

Please take note that all abstracts will be reviewed by the scientific committee. They will decide on the final acceptance for either oral or poster presentation for each abstract. All registrants will be advised accordingly by 31st July 2019

Selected abstracts will ONLY be accepted upon receipt of registration and payment for the conference fee.

ABSTRACTS

  1. All abstracts must be in ENGLISH, the combined length of the abstract title, list of authors, and body should not exceed 300 words. Please be sure to carefully check your abstract for content errors, spelling, names, etc. before submitting. A-PBA does not proofread for correct spelling, typographical, grammatical, or scientific errors, nor can changes be made once the abstract is submitted.
  2. Title should be brief, in bold capital letters at the top of the abstract.
  3. Author(s) should be listed by surname (underline) and initials, with the presentingauthor’s name underlined. The designation and organization should immediatelyfollow the authors’ names. (Organization/Institute, department, city, state, country of author).
  4. Text must be typed single-spaced, font 12 Arial with only the left margin justified.
  5. Leave one line between the title/author/institution and the body of the abstract.
  6. Each abstract should contain: (a) an introductory sentence indicating the objective of the abstract (b) main content, including methods and results if relevant and (c) conclusions. It is expected that the abstract will include the summary of the original presentation.
  7. Graphs, tables and illustration cannot be included in the abstract.
  8. The abstract document MUST BE in WORD.doc format. Any other file type WILL NOT be accepted.
  9. Abstracts must be submitted by email to secretariat@a-pba.org as Microsoft Word attachment.

Eligibility

Formal or informal patient groups, researchers, advocacy organizations or other non-governmental organizations, including implementing bodies, and appropriate legal profit or non-profit entities carrying out activities in the field of in vitro diagnostics for use in low- and middle-income countries, students, engineers, designers, and start-ups are invited to apply.

Applications from individuals, organizations, and teams are welcomed.

Scope

The scope of this design competition includes:

  • Secondary packaging
  • Outer packaging (including a place for documents to be attached)

Each submission is required to include a design for both of these packaging layers. Absorbent materials and any layer beyond the outer packaging are not necessary to design but may be submitted. Primary receptacle designs are not within the scope of this design competition.

Selection criteria

Submissions will be reviewed by FIND and members of its Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).

The following key factors will be considered in choosing the winning applicants:

  • Impact of the initiative in terms of improved diagnostic sample viability, improved access to diagnosis, and/or cost effectiveness
  • Degree to which the innovation/initiative is a significant improvement on previous approaches
  • Practicality for replicating novel diagnostics approaches in other settings and regions
  • Testimony by logistics partners, healthcare providers, and implementers
  • Packaging solution developed to transport TB sputum specimens (required) and other types of specimens for TB and other diseases (desired)

Other factors that will be considered:

  • Use of sustainably sourced and environmentally friendly materials
  • Minimal training required for use
  • Possibility of local production of design
  • Product to be implemented in primary health facilities (lowest level of implementation in the healthcare system)

 

PRIZE

A prize of US$10,000, supported by FIND, will be presented for innovative design solutions that enable local manufacturing and improved supply of fit-for-purpose sample transport packaging to facilitate safe scale-up of access to diagnostic services.

FIND will support the winner’s attendance at the Union World Conference on Lung Health to showcase the winning design to an international scientific audience. FIND will also support match-making efforts between the winning designer and manufacturers in low- and middle-income countries.

In addition, FIND will support the pilot production run of the winning design for operational study.

The deadline for proposal submissions is 30 June 2019.
