Introduction to the BRAP Registered Biosafety Professional Program©
The BioRisk Association of the Philippines 2015, Inc. (BRAP) proudly introduces the BRAP Registered Biosafety Professional Program© (BRAP RBP Program©), a national professional credentialing initiative designed to recognize, develop, and strengthen the competency of biosafety, biosecurity, and biorisk management professionals in the Philippines.
As laboratories, research institutions, health facilities, academic centers, and public health systems continue to face evolving biological risks, the need for competent, ethical, and well-prepared professionals has become increasingly important. The BRAP RBP Program© provides a structured pathway for individuals involved in laboratory biosafety, biosecurity, biocontainment, and biorisk management to demonstrate their knowledge, experience, professional judgment, and commitment to safe and responsible practice.
The program was established to support BRAP’s continuing mission of advancing a culture of biosafety and biosecurity in the country. It recognizes that professional competence is not based on training alone, but also on practical experience, ethical conduct, continuing professional development, leadership, and the ability to apply biorisk management principles in real-world settings.
Through the BRAP RBP Program©, applicants are assessed across key competency domains, including education, professional experience, technical competency, continuing professional development, leadership and professional contribution, professional ethics and standing, and interview or scenario-based evaluation. Special emphasis is placed on the applicant’s understanding and application of biosafety, biosecurity, and biorisk management principles.
The program offers three professional tiers:
RBP-A: Associate Level
For individuals beginning their professional pathway in biosafety, biosecurity, and biorisk management, or those who demonstrate foundational knowledge and emerging experience.
RBP-C: Competent Level
For practitioners with demonstrated applied experience, technical competence, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to institutional biosafety and biorisk management programs.
RBP-E: Expert Level
For senior professionals who demonstrate strategic leadership, program development experience, governance and policy competence, mentorship capability, high-level ethical judgment, and significant institutional or national contribution to biorisk management.
The BRAP RBP Program© aims to build a nationally recognized community of competent and ethical professionals who can help strengthen laboratory safety, biological security, institutional preparedness, and national health security. It also provides a professional development framework that encourages lifelong learning, accountability, and leadership in the field.
By launching this program, BRAP affirms its commitment to advancing professional standards in biosafety and biosecurity, supporting the Philippine laboratory and public health sectors, and contributing to a safer and more secure Philippines.
The BRAP Registered Biosafety Professional Program© is more than a credential. It is a commitment to competence, professionalism, ethical practice, and service to the nation.
